Dementia

Understanding Alzheimer’s Disease

Alzheimer's disease is a progressive condition where nerve cells in the brain degenerate, leading to significant memory loss and cognitive decline. This condition affects aspects of memory, thinking, language, and behavior as connections between neurons break down. Our staff is trained to understand these changes and provide care that respects the dignity and individuality of each resident. Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia among older adults, and it is not a normal part of aging. The disease was first described by Dr. Alois Alzheimer in 1906 after he noticed unique symptoms in a patient, marking the discovery of what we now recognize as Alzheimer's disease.
